This mare is a true all-around with ROMs in trail, games, and roping. She's a great trail riding horse, too. She's been a tough open horse and an even tougher non-pro.
Nellie has two of the best all-around performance horses as her grandsires. Both Pine Wampy and Beau Bonanza are AQHA Champions. You won't find many Quarter Horses, much less Colored Appaloosas with those lines so close up.

Ms Penny Whistle (1980 - 1996) was a great horse for our whole family. She was by Beau Bonanza and was a half sister to Nellie's mom. Penny was purchased as a three year old and had 90 days of cutting training.
From the beginning, she was the kind of horse that anyone could ride. My brother Pete rode her in all sorts of open shows and 4-H. When I got to high school rodeo, I borrowed her. Penny was a great breakaway calf roping, heeling, and goat tying horse. She and I won the state 4-H title in reining, as well as the Miss Iowa High School Rodeo horsemanship contest. I also won money on her at college rodeos my freshman year at Iowa State. Nearly everywhere I took her, people tried to buy her. She was 14'1 and the perfect size for young kids to ride. After retiring her to the broodmare mare pen, she was bred to Polo Pine. She died an hour after she gave birth to Huerfano PineBonanza.
Penny was a special horse and is buried on the family farm.

Nellie also gives rides to friends. Michaela Gonzales, almost two, checked out Nellie's spots. Renee Knowlton used her for poles and barrels at a fun night.
